Certified Eco-Friendly Schools

posted by Alicia A 1 year ago

A non-profit organization known as the U.S. Green Building Counsil has developed a program called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), which they use to certify schools "eco-friendly". The eco-friendly certified schools are more energy efficient, have better air quality, and provide an educational foundation for going green. According to an article in the USA today, the U.S.G.B.C. has certified or is considering certification for more than 1000 schools nation wide. For more information on the U.S. Green Building Counsil go to usgbc.org . They have a lot of new information on "green building".

With the rising costs in energy, it no wonder that people are looking for other alternatives. I think it is extremely important to teach our younger generations how to care for our planet and make eco-friendly decisions. What better way than begining in our schools. I can't wait to see how this eco-friendly building progresses.

Uriel Sebree (1848–1922)

Uriel Sebree (1848–1922) was a career officer in the United States Navy. He entered the Naval Academy during the Civil War and served until 1910, retiring as a rear admiral. He is best remembered for his two expeditions into the Arctic and for serving as the second acting governor of American Samoa. He was also commander-in-chief of the Pacific Fleet. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1867, Sebree was posted to a number of vessels before being assigned to a rescue mission to find the remaining crew of the missing Polaris in the Navy's first mission to the Arctic.

thanks for children

I am so glad to hear that the action for eco-friendly schools is being pushed for. the children are the hope for our future and the future of a healthy planet. it only makes sense that we teach them ways in which they can help create a funtional change in our waste disposal, our food growth, our water consumption, etc. and, also to teach them that they are more than able to make these changes. they are children but they are people and people that should have a voice. their voice means so much. children know the earth better than the grown-ups. their connection is truer and less muddied by stimulus pollution. if we want to pass on our land to our families and their families, we had better get serious about educational solutions. change will happen when we realize that we have to catalyze it for future generations. i hope with all of my heart that each parent can take this responsibilty on in their homes as well. the best education is shown by the parent. for all you parents already teaching values of nature to your children, much respect. thank you
